Thermally Conductive Polymers for Heat Management

The Protool Plastics Group have pioneered the use of polymer composite materials as alternatives to aluminium castings for LED lighting.

Thermally conductive polymers give significant design advantages over aluminium allowing much more complex shapes to be produced.

Polymers are available in electrically insulating and electrically conductive versions and at commercially acceptable pricing.

Thermal conductivity up to 20w/MK ensures that even the most demanding products can be catered for.

Sales Director Michael Hadfield commented “Thermal designers assume that polymers can never compete with traditional heat sink materials such as aluminium.

However thermal transfer is only part of the story and innovative design plays a massive part in meeting customer demands.

Much more creative designs can be made in polymer at a fraction of the cost of aluminium die cast tooling.

At Lux Live 2015 we pitched the product to the design team of one of the largest lighting OEM’s in the World. At first they were very sceptical but 5 months on they are awaiting T1 parts for their new flagship down light product”
