Injection Moulded LED Lights Plastic Heatsinks – Thermally Conductive Electrically Insulating

The Protool Plastics Group continues development of LED Lighting Products with the introduction of plastic heatsinks.
Plastic heatsinks can be designed from your technical specification and verified using thermal transmission software.

The above image shows how the plastic heatsink dissipates heat from the source into the atmosphere.
The design of the part and wall sections are evaluated to maximise heat dissiptation from the heat source.

Once the design has been optimised to maximise transmission the model is checked with the heat source at operating temperature.

The maximum operating temperature is shown on the colour graph.

Other design features can be incorporated such as Reflectors and Diffusers.

Other key design features of plastic heatsinks include:-

Electrically Insulating – PCB’s and LED’s can be mounted directly to he moulding.

Weight – Polymer typically weighs less than a 1/3rd compared to traditional aluminium heatsinks.

Design Complexity – More compex designs and forms can be incorporated.
